NBA Rookie Watch: Week One

Rookie notes:

...Kevin Durant looks for all the world like the second coming of the Iceman George Gervin. However, as predicted, at this point in his career he's basically a volume scorer with a low Eff48. He's taking an incredible .62 shots/minute... Shockingly, Yi Jianlian looks like he might have a more refined all-around game than Durant... Al Horford, in one game, looks like a monster, especially on the windows... Did anyone see G Daequan Cook of the Ohio St. coming? The Heat may have a steal there... On the other hand, Cook's Buckeye buddy, Mike Conley, the 4th overall pick, is buried so far down on the Grizzlie bench he's wearing a miner's helmet... Seattle's Jeff Green is playing but he's struggling badly thus far... Julian Wright was pretty productive in limited playing time.

NBA Rookies Eff48 Rankings (minimum 15 mins/game)

1. Al Horford, Hawks (1 game, 23 mins)...39.9
2. Daequan Cook, Heat (1 game, 29 mins)...31.5
3. Luis Scola, Rockets (3 games, 19 mins per)...22.6
4. Sean Williams, Nets (1 game, 21 mins)...20.9
5. Yi Jianlian, Bucks (3 games, 24 mins per)...17.5
6. Kevin Durant, Sonics (3 games, 35 mins per)...16.3
7. Al Thornton, Clippers (1 game, 19 mins)...12.8
8. Aaron Aaflalo, Pistons (2 games, 20 mins per)...12.0
9. Corey Brewer, Twolves (1 game, 15 mins)...9.6
10. Jeff Green, Sonics (2 games, 20 mins per)...7.2

Eff48: (Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocked Shots) - (Missed FGAs + Missed FTAs + Turnovers) / minutes played * 48.

I agree Durant is a volume scorer....but I've also never seen anything like him since Jordan, the way he simply plans on taking every shot each time down the court...and making many of them. He's exciting to watch.

I'd just hope that Yi can take second place in the ROY contest come year end.

That was a deep, deep draft this year.

Yi was great, but he seemed to tire a bit late in the fourth. Hope Coach K keeps his minutes in check; he's been playing all summer. My favorite Yi moment was when the cameras caught him talking shit before the Bulls inbounded. Off topic, I hope that getting benched for the end of the game sent Mo a message.

Good defense by the Milwaukee Bucks drama boys, if only we could patch up the difference, this will be a Milwaukee good season. They are running, switching in defense, rebounding see those efforts. We don't have yet the Bucks team down.
