How did the Bucks do?: Bucks game RPI rating boxscore vs Phoenix Suns
Scott Skiles would kill me for writing this, but the Bucks played a decent game against the Phoenix Suns. After putting up a terrible performance against the Boston Celtics on Friday night, according to my "Relative Performance Indicator" rating system, which judges the Bucks performance against the performance of the rest of the Association against the opponent, the Bucks performed like a 44-38 team tonight.
Comments on the RPI results
1. Despite what the Bucks announcers were saying, Moute and the rest of the Bucks did an outstanding defensive job on Amare Stoudamire. Stoudamire was destroying the Association coming into this game, averaging an ungodly Win Score of 21.4, but tonight the Bucks held him to a 6.8. Well done.
2. Luc Richard Moute continues to shine. He had another huge offensive game, and as mentioned, did a fine job on Amare Stoudamire after replacing an extremely ineffective Charlie Villanueva.
3. Andrew Bogut had an above average offensive game, and so did Dan Gadzuric. But the Shaq Diesel just ran over them... but relatively speaking his game wasnt as huge as you might have imagined. Shaq has been on a mission all season, just check out his huge WS48 in the RPI boxscore.
4. Luke Ridnour struggled bigtime. He had a horrible offensive game and didn't do a very good job checking Steve Nash.
5. RJ, RJ, RJ... I just prop you out yesterday and you take an absolute shit on the BC floor today. As Richard Jefferson goes, so go the Bucks I guess. He had a nasty bad game. Not only did he have a bad offensive game, he got run over by Grant Hill.
6. Ramon Sessions continues to shine, and Coach Skiles specifically singled him out in his post game comments ("Ramon... had another good game..."). Its great to see, we need him this year and going into the future.

Ty, how can you say Bogut had "an above average offensive game". He shot 2-8 and was horrible all night.
Yeah, same here paul. Besides rebounding it seems like Bogut didn't care about defense and 3 of his shots were jumpers while he was fairly open and he bricked them all.
We need to go with Sessions/Redd/RJ/LRMAM/Bogut
Everyone else is absurdly horrible, and ironically Redd and RJ have been horrible as well.
Pressey, you know I respect your point of view, so I,and in this case I see your point, believe me. But I'm kind of not saying what you think I'm saying. Let me explain. I'm not saying he was above average in absolute terms, I'm saying was above average RELATIVE to the performances of the rest of the centers who played against the Suns this season.
Here's why I decided to take that approach.
It has become clear to me that Win Score positional averages fluctuate each season. Therefore, it makes no sense for me to continue to compare the production of the Bucks players against the average production last season... as I was doing.
But at the same time, it makes no sense for me to compare the Bucks production against this season's NBA averages either -- because the Bucks haven't played the entire NBA.
Instead I decided to borrow the thinking used in the player evaluations done by FootballOutsiders.com. That is, I decided the most informative performance evaluation is one that compares each Bucks game performance against the game performance of the rest of the Association against the same opponent.
This method, I believe, provides Bucks fans with the most informative performance evaluation available. Sure, you're going to get a few bizarre results, such as Bogut's, early in the season. But over time, you will get a solid evaluation of each Buck.
I'm going to do a post that further explains my methodology.

You are absolutely right... Bogut should be FINED any time he attempts a shot outside the lane.
A quick review of 82games statistics shows Bogut has consistently been no better than a 30% jump shooter throughout his career. And since none of his made attempts are 3 pointers, that means the vast majority of his brick shots, errr... jump shots... result in a costly TURNOVER for the Bucks.
In fact, I don't know if you remember, but I did some calculations this summer that I included in a post that suggested that if Bogut MERELY ELIMINATED JUMP SHOTS FROM HIS GAME, he would have the production numbers of an elite level center. Its that simple. That's all he has to do.
I'm going to do a follow up post reiterating that point.
Your analyses are usually pretty insightful, but Bogut's performance was right in line with his new look for this year, "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?"
Sometime the eyeballs don't lie.
And could someone please tell me why Bogut can shoot a pretty good FT% and outside shot % while playing for Australia, but is lucky to hit glass when he plays for the Bucks?
