Have any of you switched over to the new site? I'm having difficulty figuring out the functionality over there and the normal commenters haven't been around and there are some interesting issues arising with our successful Milwaukee Bucks. There may be opportunities for further advancements (our highest paid players are doing nothing... our lowest paid player is a blossoming superstar). So PLEASE let me know if you like this deal. So far I'm kind of like... eh... its frustrating. But its supposedly a lot bigger audience. But right now it feels like one of those George Lucas or Stanley Kubrick movies where somebody landed me on an all white planet by myself and I can't find any signs of civilization...

Yeah I'm with you for I guess the third year now. Wherever you're putting stuff up I'll check it out. Maybe I should mention that as fascinating as some of Berri's ideas and findings can be, he turns me off enough and seems to miss the mark enough that I stopped keeping up not long I started.
I don't really know the situation, or what you want to get out of the internet. As I understand it you're probably at least somewhat successful and happy too in your day job. I've never really noticed any ads. Who wouldn't want to make a comfortable living with their passion instead? And this is obviously just about your chief passion unless you've just been trying not to link to your coin collecting blog all this time. And with the energy you put into all of it it makes sense that you'd want the biggest chance of the most people possible checking it out.
From there... I really don't know. Would you like to eventually be a full-time Bucks writer, or NBA writer from a Bucks slant, for someone that's big enough to pay you a salary? Ten years ago maybe they would've tried to control some of the things that make you so engaging, and now, maybe, maybe not. I don't know how much you might try to change in anticipation of that, maybe you just use a little cleaner language and that's all. I say why censor anything and there's not much 8 year olds haven't heard, let it all out as natural as possible but you probably have a point.
I don't know if this is relevant but I don't really read sports blogs beside yours and Gilbert Arenas's. Never heard of MVN but like I just said I'm not the person to ask. I enjoy all three of our pro teams but I watch the games and other teams' games, skim the news from the people who have more access than me (the JS Bucks team uses it for shit unfortunately), check on the team sites and league sites, and talk to people I know about it, not really online. I accept that there are at least a few things going on that I'll never know and I don't really get off on speculation or soap opera type stuff or expect or really hope to know these guys beyond what they can do as athletes. So I just hardly ever find other strangers' and fans' accounts to be worth the time.
And as interesting as some of your work with numbers is, remember I was coming here before any of that, because even though the posts were more sporadic something would jump out of some of them sometimes.
One thing that stands out is it does seem like you want a bigger audience, but you've also mentioned some missed opportunities, and things like not keeping up with readers and correspondence. Things work out. Also even though I'd agree MVN doesn't feel as comfortable a spot yet, it easily could from my end. From your end, I don't know how much time, energy or HTML-type learning it'd take, and that kind of ties in with the first part as being lower priorities in the work to you. You're like an artist in a good way and I don't know exactly what your goals are or if you'll achieve them, but you'll know the right things to do, and if you want, you can do them.
I find the back-and-forth to be kind of overrated, and definitely a less important part of the internet than the fact of you being able to spread what you have to say to me cheaply and easily. If you've helped keep your comment count down in any ways, I would argue if there are 40 comments on every post and people are hanging out to comment, that can be worthless or take something away in its way too.
That's enough for now, and hopefully it's enough to show some perspective somewhere near the area you're looking for.
I like the old site better, but then again, I don't care for change. I'll follow where-ever you go (or stay)
As an update, Bogut claims on his blog that a surprise is coming shortly for Bucks fans. We can't quite figure out whether that means an extension of the $10 upper deck seats or a player acquisition.
Nobody likes the new site right away.
Look at realgm, they changed the look of the forum and everyone bitched for weeks.
Now we probably couldn't go back to the old.
